Spoon Carving Workshop @ Caney Fork - Tuesday, June 11
Join us for this exciting evening as we learn the simple and fun techniques of spoon carving. We will start with knife safety and body awareness practices then progress into simple whittling techniques using both straight blades and hook knives. Through the course of the evening you will practice carving the bowl and handle of a simple wooden spoon from a native hardwood blank.
This workshop is open to folks 18 and over. No prior woodworking experience necessary.
This event is offered on a sliding scale donation basis: $15 - $50 per person recommended.

Nature-Inspired Poetry & Songwriting - Saturday, June 8
Join Kayla Watson and Topher Stephens for an afternoon of mindful nature connection and creative writing.
Drawing inspiration from the beautiful forests and balds around Black Balsam Knob, we will tap into our creative potentials and craft poems, songs, or other forms of creative writing.
No experience in writing or music is necessary, beginners are welcome!

Birding @ Lake Glenville - Thursday, June 6
Join Tuck Birders at Ralph Andrews Recreation Park on Lake Glenville for an evening of Birding.
We will meet at 6pm at the Ralph Andrews parking area.

Bird Nerd Book Club (Online) - Wednesday, June 5
Join us for this online meet-up to discuss Scott Weidensaul’s 2001 award winning book, A World on the Wing: The Global Odyssey of Migratory Birds.
Copies of the book may be purchased from City Lights Bookstore in Sylva or wherever books are sold. It is also available as an audiobook or ebook.
This event is FREE and open to all (even if you haven’t finished the book or the science-y parts flew right over your head).

Birding the Blue Ridge Parkway - Saturday, May 25
Join Birders of the Tuckaseegee as we explore the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Balsam Gap.
Unlike other Tuck Birders events, we will be driving to multiple locations throughout the morning. We will meet at the BRP entrance at Balsam Gap at 8am then slowly caravan our way south, stopping at various overlooks to look and listen for warblers and other fun high elevation birds. We'll aim to end at Waterrock Knob around 11am so bring a picnic if you'd like!
This event is FREE & OPEN TO ALL. Loaner binoculars available for beginners.
Restrooms are available at Waterrock Knob Visitors Center.

Birding @ Kituwah Fields - Friday, May 24
Join Birders of the Tuckaseegee as we explore the beautiful and bird-filled habitats of Kituwah, the Mothertown of the Cherokee people.This is an incredibly special and well-tended place which the Eastern Band of Cherokee graciously allows the public to enjoy.
This event is FREE & OPEN TO ALL! Loaner binoculars available for beginners.
We will start from the Kituwah parking area at 6pm and return there around sunset.

Folks wishing to carpool can meet at 5:30pm at the Dillsboro BP at Exit 81.
The trail we will take is around 1.5 miles of flat gravel. Porta-Potty toilets are available in the parking area.

Birding @ Little Tennessee Greenway, Franklin
Join the Franklin Bird Club for a bird walk along the Little Tennessee River Greenway near downtown Franklin. These walks are led by experienced birders and are open to anyone regardless of experience. Meet at Macon County Library at 8am.

Join the Feminist Bird Club of Asheville and Birders of the Tuckaseegee Watershed as we combine forces to explore this beautiful high elevation bald and forest off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is great Chestnut-sided Warbler habitat and is a popular birding hotspot with amazing views.
